Within the vast reaches of God’s wild Earth located between Kenai and Fontenelle, my heart is scattered across the hillsides and river basins. I often find myself reciting some iteration of that phrase when a conversation turns to the topic of where I’m “from.” When I tell folks that, for the most part, I split my time between Alaska & Wyoming, there’s typically a moment of pause. It’s usually amplified later in the conversation when I explain the windows of time in my typical season in which I travel internationally.
I’m Kurt and I wear a few different hats in my professional life. I maintain this rudimentary media outlet to the best of my ability and I guide year round with my partners in WYAK Outfitters, as well as filling a role as a seasonal guide for the legendary Wyoming Fishing Company.
Additionally, I own and operate Authentically Wild Photography, where I provide adventure photography services from the field. I specialize in capturing moments from my client’s outings so the memories can be immortalized through the lens and enjoyed for a lifetime.
What I do & Where I do it
Outfitting/Guiding
Trophy trout on western waters or genuinely wild steelhead in one of the last untouched fisheries of the Pacific Northwest. Between the two arenas, though they vary greatly in appearance & condition, the focus is the same. I apply the time I have with my clients solely to targeting and hunting that specific fish. That perspective altering fish. That truly wild and undeniably rare fish. When I’m working on the water, I’m hunting for trophy caliber creatures or bust.
At WYAK Outfitters, the team and I utilize the ever-changing ocean tides and an array of different types of jet boats in order to pursue pure strain, entirely uninhibited coastal steelhead. The majority of my annual season is spent in the Pacific Northwest entrenched in this effort.
During the summer months, I migrate to Western Wyoming to work the waters there. As a senior guide at Wyoming Fishing Company, I enjoy the access and permitting to fish my clients on a plethora of different river venues. From the headwaters, through the freestone, and down on the tailwaters – I spend a portion of each season on a bit of it all.
